Folk at the Unicorn
Monthly folk concerts - normally a Thursday night. Folk at the Unicorn brings acoustic folk music to The Unicorn Theatre in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. A stunning, intimate venue, originally constructed in the 14th century, the theatre is housed in a small complex of buildings that once belonged to Abingdon's magnificent Benedictine Abbey (which was dissolved under Henry VIII's reign). The Unicorn Theatre is an Elizabethan style theatre that is a perfect setting for concerts and will be filled with the sound of folk music from young up and coming stars to powerhouses of the folk world.
Folk Club Bonn
Anglo American style, a place where total strangers meet peacefully once a month and play simple honest acoustic music. Free admission and open to people of all ages to either just come along and listen, or hopefully to come and sing and/or play and do a "floor spot”.Unplugged and unpretentious, one can certainly call it a feast of international folk, blues, roots, country and world music, with even dance and poetry allowed, but really it’s just a plain and simple old fashioned folk club.Everything is allowed that is not expressly forbidden, and the only thing that is forbidden is the electric amplifier. The only thing that is "smoking” should be the music. The room is small enough and music has sufficient power in itself, without artificial steroids.Resident singers and musicians are John Harrison, a noteless blues singer from the old continent and Barry L. Roshto, a classically trained musician with more notes than the Federal Reserve Bank from the new continent. Two men separated by the same language, yet united in their love of music, the most unifying language of all.

Although biased towards traditional song, the club books a wide range of singers & musicians, with one common denominator: We love wrapping our tonsils around a good chorus - Herga's "Wall of Sound" is world famous. Regular singers include Kitty Vernon, Graeme Knights, Mike Sparks, George Papavgeris, Christine Connolley, Steve Last, Bob Hambleton, John Breeze - and perhaps soon, you?
An English folk tunes session in Southampton on the second Tuesday of the month at the Junction Inn, Priory Road, Southampton SO17 2JZ at 8.30pm.
There are many hundreds, probably thousands, of great tunes published in England over the centuries. Some are still current, but many of them have fallen out of circulation, at least in part due to the lack of good quality source recordings.
Many contemporary artists have brought some of these current and forgotten tunes to life, but there are so many more just waiting to be rediscovered. Come and help with the process - share your old favourites and new discoveries, learn fresh tunes and develop new playing styles.
